7.31.365: A Plethora of Kittens

Or a Gaggle? Herd?

Oh my god- I looked it up and it’s technically a kindle of kittens. Eeesh. That’s just too cute.

Our friend’s three cats decided to have kittens all at the same time. These are the orange ones. There are white ones, black ones and a gray one too.

And in case you were wondering? Those three mamas are a clowder of cats. I love the english language.

7.29.365: Phineas the Wonder Pup

A little bit of dog goes a long way to making up for a really crappy month.

I recommend getting yourself one. But not this one. He’s taken.

7.28.365: Friends make it all better

More so than Mom ever could. They distract you from pain. They make you forget you should be babying your arm.

Plus, they will listen to the story of your hospital stay with rapt attention over and over and over. They make everything right in the world.

7.26.365: Craftiness

If Children’s Hospital ever found themselves in need of some quick cash, they could go room-to-room gathering all the completed craft projects they hand out to the kids each day to sell on etsy.

When we arrived in the ER, we had nothing except my purse. When we walked out seven days later, we had four bags worth of stuff. True, one of those bags was clothes and one was medical supplies, but that still leaves two bags full of craft projects. The Oldest was delighted.

7.25.365: Waiting. Again.

By this point, She was feeling pretty good. Her arm wasn’t bothering¬† her. That smell of death was gone. The only reason we were still stuck in the hospital was because they wanted to make sure her infection was going to stay gone.

Which meant being hooked up to an IV for many hours a day, getting pumped full of antibiotics. I’m grateful for modern medicine. I really am. But, she would have happily ripped that IV out and run for the door if I had given her half a chance.

7.23.365: Tootsies

When you are stuck in the hospital for seven days, even at an awesome children’s hospital full of fun things to do, you have to find things to keep your kid entertained.

Blue toe nails work well.

7.22.365: Balloons from a friend

A lovely person sent balloons for the Oldest and a Starbucks gift card for me.

I love that woman. Thank you, Sarah!

7.21.365: Post Op

They starved the girl all day long and then took her into the operating room to remove her old stitches and clean out her infection. She came back looking like this. She had to keep her arm hung up for the next two days. It was… interesting.

But at this point, all she cares about is eating that pizza in front of her.

7.20.365: Waiting

At the oldest’s doctor’s check-up, they decided her arm was not doing well and sent us to the ER. The ER decided that they couldn’t deal with how not well her arm was doing and sent us to the local(ish) children’s hospital. To keep her entertained while we waited, I let the girl-child play with my Shiny!New! camera. This is the Oldest’s picture of us waiting to be admitted.

And waiting. And waiting. We did that for seven days.
