9.21.365: The Gathering

Every night in summer, these guys gather around my windows and doors. The light from the house attracts every bug in the forest and these froggies like to catch them for dinner. I think it’s a lovely symbiotic relationship we have.

I really hate bugs and I really like frogs. This works for me.

5.15.365: This is why

If you’ve ever wondered why Jeremy and I are still going strong after twelve years? This is pretty high on the list of reasons:

He makes the best damn cookies on the planet. It takes so little to keep a marriage strong.

5.13.365: Braid Wednesday on a Friday

Do you know what’s great about Flickr? You can find anything you are interested in over there. You can be looking for something to do with your hair and stumble across an entire group of people devoted to braiding their hair every Wednesday. Then you can spend an hour looking through hundreds of pictures of people with gorgeous locks and then spend another hour trying to get your wiry, curly hair to do something similar. The next thing you know, it’s four o’clock and the kids are getting off the bus, the pile of laundry on the couch is still waiting and the dishes are still sitting in the sink.

But your hair looks pretty and you feel oh-so-fancy. The internets are fabulous.

5.12.365: Walking in Daddy’s shoes.

He didn’t get very far. Those boots are really heavy.

Hm. That might be a metaphor for life, if I was the sort of person to use imagery as a metaphor for life. Which I’m not. So, it’s actually just a cute picture of my boy wearing boots 100 times too big for him. Isn’t that enough?

5.9.365: I’m going to pretend this never happened.

As I was leaning against the porch railing, taking pictures of the rain pouring off of the roof, Jeremy came out to talk to me:

“I just read that we have a winter storm warning until five o’clock: thunder, lightening, and penny-sized hail. Take cover.”

…Five seconds later…

“You do realize this is all your fault, right?”

Yes, dear. I understand. It’s completely my fault. If I could go back in time and keep myself from planting those flowers, I would. However, today it’s sunny and I’m just going to pretend the last few days never happened.

But don’t worry,  I won’t be buying any more flowers for a couple of weeks.

5.8.365: I hate to say I told you so…

…but I told you so.

Remember how I said that if I planted my flowers it would turn cold? I planted those flowers. And today?

It’s cold and rainy.

What a terrible thing to be right about. I guess I should be grateful that it’s not snowing.

4.19.365: Redbud Season

Spring is a beautiful thing. Although, I’m not sure I can call this Spring. I’m still huddling under a blanket and wearing five layers of clothing all day long, but hey- the Redbuds are blooming and there are wildflowers every where you look.

It hasn’t snowed in at least three weeks, so I guess that qualifies for Spring. Now if we can just inch our way out of the 60’s during the day, I’ll be truly happy with the season. Probably. There is still the matter of the random May snowstorm we get every year. It’s like Mother Nature has to throw in that last “screw you” before she finally surrenders and gives me what I want.

What do I want? HEAT. Blissful, radiating heat. I want to bask in all it’s blistering glory and complain about endless sunburns. Yep. That’s heaven to me. Until then I can deal with this Spring teaser.

It is pretty.
